The training for International member of E9 Countries

With nearly 3.5 billion inhabitants in 2005-more than half the world population-the nine highly populated developing countries (E9) together represent tremendous challenges that weigh heavily on global education trends. A majority of the E9 countries have not yet achieved universal primary education and all face major quality deficits. Only two countries have achieved gender parity in primary and secondary education. Literacy remains an overriding challenge. Of the world's 771 million adults who lack the basic learning tools to make informed decisions and participate fully in the development of their societies, nearly 70% live in these nine countries. Tackling the literacy gap is both a moral and development imperative for E9 governments and donor countries. It requires strengthening efforts to expand education and to significantly improve its quality. But this alone does not suffice: there is also an urgent need to scale up youth and adult learning opportunities and to develop literate environments, in particular in those countries which still have low education indicators.

The 7th meeting of the E9 member countries on 11-12 march 2008 in Bali and the Senior Official Meeting of the member on 22-23 October 2008 in Jakarta, has concluded the agreement that Indonesia is expected to be able to share the best practices that have been achieved. This is aimed to provide the information of Indonesia's efforts in improving the quality of teachers to others.

As one the initiative member countries, Indonesia has taken part to conduct the main concerning programme in teacher's quality improvement. To contribute deeper in relation to the global programme, the Ministry of National Education Republic of Indonesia, along with Vocational Education Development Centre for Agriculture, will deliver a training programme in agriculture focus specifically on agriculture food processing.

Delegations are coming from the E9 member countries. It is assumed that the trainees are teachers or educational personnel in each country.

At the end of the training, trainees understand and master some particular food processing methods (plants and animals) which then will be applied by the trainees in their respective countries afterwards.

The training will be held for 12 days from July 5 to 17, 2010. The contents of the training are:

• Basic Contents; training activity will explore the basics and foundations of food processing technology, preservation process, packaging, HACCP and GMP in general.
• Applied Contents; trainees are encouraged to practice some generic and easy to use food processing exercise such as the making of Tempe, Manisan, Potato Chips, Abon, Ice cream, Terrine (fish processing product)
• Outward Management Training

The trainees will learn the concepts or the basic principles of processing and preserving food by applying the Good Manufacturing Products (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) in the food processing industry. Technically they will learn some concepts of characteristics materials, tools and equipment functions, processing techniques, quality control, packaging techniques; waste management actions; the implementation of HACCP and storage. Moreover, they are going to have practices in producing various products such as abon, fish terrine, ice cream, tempe, manisan buah and potato chips. The programme provides the time for doing industrial excursion as the activity will give opportunity and knowledge in dealing with the training process. Trainess is also visiting school to find the real view of Indonesian schooling particularly Vocational School. At last, trainees are encouraged to perform the ability in representing their culture on a Cultural Night event. Methods that will be applied on training are:

• Field Trip
• Exposure
